The light between the shelves

CHAPTER 1A light left on
The bookshop was the only place in the city that stayed open when it rained. Not because anyone came in, but because, as its owner liked to say, a good story should always leave a light on.
Elliot found it on a Thursday, with a broken umbrella and nowhere in particular to be. A small brass bell announced his arrival. Somewhere between the shelves, someone was making tea.
“You look like you need a different ending,” said the voice behind the counter.
“I would settle for a dry place to start,” he replied.
